Nelson Gets Second Career Victory

WACO, Texas - Ryan Nelson (Dickinson, Texas) got his second career win on the Adams Golf Pro Tour Series Saturday at Jamie Hilton's Hillcrest Children's Golf Classic.

Nelson shot a four round total of 10-under-par 278.

He was able to take lead from 18-hole leader Charles Bettis (Hobbs, NM) when he shot a second round 4-under-par 68 on Thursday. High winds at Twin Rivers Golf Club caused problems for most of the golfers, and after two rounds only four out of a field of 108 were under par.

Nelson finished with three of his four rounds under par, while posting an even par during round one.

During the final round, Nelson was paired with Cole Howard (Waco, Texas), who was four strokes behind him.

“My goal of the day was to really try to get a couple birdies early and really press,” Nelson said. “Even though I had the lead, I knew I needed to stay out in front because these guys are such good players.”

Nelson pulled away and would go on to win by eight strokes. Second place went to former Baylor University golfer Ryan Baca (Sugar Land, Texas).

This is Nelson's fifth tournament of the season, and he has placed 11th or higher in each of those tournaments.

With this win, Nelson is at the top of the money list for the 2010 season.

Jamie HIlton's Hillcrest Children's Golf Classic benefits Jamie's Place Grief Support Program at Hillcrest Community Hospice as well as child life programs at the Women’s & Children’s Center at Hillcrest.

Addressing the Ball
