Southwest Louisiana Lions Club Open:

Round 3 Recap

Westlake, Louisiana - Early morning fog delayed the start of the third round by one hour, but that delay did not affect Steve Saunders (Albuquerque, NM).  He took advantage of good conditions to post a 7-under-par 65 and take a one shot lead at 10-under-par through three rounds of the 2011 Souhwest Louisiana Lions Club Open.

Saunders opened his round with a birdie at the first hole and included two more on the front nine, along with one bogey, to go out at 2-under-par 34.  He recorded a flawless 5-under-par 31 on the back nine which was highlighted by an eagle 3 on the par 5 hole #11.

Playing alongside Saunders was 2010 Canadian Tour Rolex Player of the Year Aaron Goldberg (Carlsbad, CA).  He posted a 5-under-par 67 and sits just one shot behind at 9-under-par.  Travis Woolf (Fort Worth, TX) also sits in a tie for second at 9-under after finishing with a round of 4-under-par 68.

Second round leader, Jose Toledo (Guatemala City), took a step back today after finishing with a 1-over-par 73.  Along with Toledo, Canadian Tour winner Dustin Risdon (Strathmore, Alberta Canada) and past champion Dawie Van Der Walt (Cape Town, South Africa) are tied in fourth place at 7-under-par.

Side Note:  Dave Schultz (Fort Worth, TX) withdrew during the third round.

Round four begins Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m.  The final tee time is scheduled at 9:21 a.m.  Admission is FREE for spectators.

Saunders and Goldberg are scheduled to tee off together at 9:21 a.m.

Rule of the Week

Addressing the Ball

(NEW Change For 2012)

A player has “addressed the ball” when he has grounded his club immediately in front of or immediately behind the ball, whether or not he has taken his stance. Therefore, the Rules generally no longer provide for a player addressing the ball in a hazard.
