MERIDIAN, Mississippi - Bronson Burgoon (The Woodlands, Texas) is the 2010 champion of the First Tee of Meridian Championship.

After opening rounds of 69 and 70, Burgoon put himself in great position going into the final two days only two shots behind then leader Pablo Acuna (Guatemala).  Both he and Mississippi native Kyle Ellis (Senatobia, MS) posted 6-under-par rounds - 65 - during the third day; which put them at a tie for the lead heading into the final round at 9-under-par.

The final round would prove to be a two-man battle.  Burgoon had a staggering eight birdies on the day; five of which came on the difficult front nine.  After posting a nine hole score of 31, Burgoon held a two stroke lead over Ellis.  However, he would start with back-to-back bogeys on holes 10-11; which gave Ellis a chance to regain some position.  Ellis would eventually take a one stroke lead after his birdie on the par 5 16th.

Things got interested, though, when Ellis three putted the par 3 17th and would go on to make bogey four.  Burgoon capitalized on this mistake with a birdie on 17; making it a two stroke swing.  With only one hole remaining all Burgoon had to do was finish what he started.  Both players would go on to par the 18th.

Ellis finished his round with seven birdies and three bogeys, and sole possession of second place at 13-under-par 271.

Blake Trimble (Houston, TX) and Ryan Nelson (Houston, TX) both shot rounds of 4-under-par 67 to finish tied for third at 9-under-par 275.

Nelson had another solid performance and finished the year atop the Tour Money List.  In all, he played in 14 of 16 events.  Nelson had ten top 10 finishes; which included two wins.

The First Tee of Meridian Championship was hosted at Northwood Country Club in Meridian, Mississippi.  The tournament benefited the First Tee of Meridian.

Addressing the Ball

(NEW Change For 2012)

A player has “addressed the ball” when he has grounded his club immediately in front of or immediately behind the ball, whether or not he has taken his stance. Therefore, the Rules generally no longer provide for a player addressing the ball in a hazard.
