El Paso Desert Open:

Round 3 Recap

EL PASO, Texas - Bill Allcorn (Abilene, Texas) managed to hold the lead of the El Paso Desert Open.

Allcorn shot a 4-under-par 68 during round three, to bring him to 15-under-par 201 for the tournament.

Allcorn had four birdies and two bogeys through the 16-hole scoring check-point, which had him tied for first with Brian Rowell (Lafayette, La.).

On the 18th hole, Allcorn made an eagle to end his round at 4-under, and to regain the out-right lead.

Rowell began his third round at 8-under-par 136 and tied for seventh.

Rowell had four birdies on the front nine through seven holes, before getting a double bogey on the par-3 eighth hole.

On the back nine, Rowell made another four birdies and a bogey giving him 5-under-par 67 for the day, 13-under-par 203 for 54-holes and second place.

Jason Cook (Corona del Mar, Ca.) is in third place at 12-under-par 204 after shooting a 2-under-par 70 today.

There are two professionals tied for fourth place, and two tied for sixth place.

The El Paso Desert Classic is presented by the El Paso Association of Builders and is hosted at Painted Dunes Golf Course in El Paso, Texas. The tournament benefits the American Red Cross - El Paso Chapter.

Round four begins Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. The players are competing for a first place check of $12,000.

Admission is free for spectators.

Allcorn and Rowell are scheduled to tee of at 9:36 a.m. from hole one.

Addressing the Ball

(NEW Change For 2012)

A player has “addressed the ball” when he has grounded his club immediately in front of or immediately behind the ball, whether or not he has taken his stance. Therefore, the Rules generally no longer provide for a player addressing the ball in a hazard.
